In regards to Iraq I have to agree with mark van Schilfgaard column on January 19 Having come from the Middle East and having parents that came from the Middle East, I can tell you from personal experience that Bush’s idea of the Middle East is inaccurate. Bush would like to impose his Western views and Western traditions on countries that have been around longer than this country and have far greater reaching roots. What Bush doesn’t understand is that the Iraq is not a melting pot and not subject to changing traditions to fit the new cultural standards When it comes to Iraq, Bush’s advisors should have told him what every person from the Middle East all ready knows; the Iraqi people are the most stubborn and hard headed of any Middle East country and they would rather die than have a Western power tell them what to do. Bush went to Iraq hoping to make it better but he has basically ruined Iraq, everyday people are dying and children are freezing and starving to death because of the damage the war has done to the country the people have no house or food to eat. Sometimes we need to recognize that the ending we want is not always the ending we are going to get. Bush needs to cut his losses and walk away from a conflict that he will never resolve in his lifetime.
